Sections

Even though we try not to be main stream, the front page of OBERLIN.COM is fairly conventional in presentation. Listings are loosely organized by section – and we don’t use the term loosely, loosely. Sometimes it is very difficult to decide where an item should be placed. So, our advice is to forget about the sections and just read everything.

External Content
Many sections contain links to external content. Even though we have made the philosophical decision not to have banner, pop up or javascript advertisements on OBERLIN.COM, the same can not be said for most other sites. So, caution should be exercised when venturing off site, especially if you are prone to seizures from looking at fast moving objects and blinking lights.

External content will typically remain on the front page for three or four days. However, all external links remain in their section for 1 year and may be accessed at any time during that interval by using the See All menu item that you’re reading about right now. Know that the actual external page, over which we have no control, may no longer be accessible.

We will always try to find items of interest – especially those that are on the fringes of the information spectrum. Also, we have no agenda and will try to be no less irritating to one group than another. There is just as likely a chance for a pro-gun story as there is for one that is anti-gun.

Featured content might be any new content on the site (not external content) such as a new classified or business listing as well as events and other items. Front page duration may vary.

Links to news and opinions. External Content

Anything regarding technology, science and education will be here. External Content

Political news from anywhere on the planet is fair game for this section. Expect to see an emphasis on the shortcomings. External Content

Any user may provide a comment or opinion on virtually any topic. All submissions will initially be assigned to the front page. Front page duration may vary. Comments enabled.

Matters of fitness and well-being along with health related advances will be found here. External Content

No stock quotes or acquisition gossip but news hopefully from a less travelled road regarding money and business. External Content

Information about our values, beliefs and the nether regions of the ineffable. External Content

This is the most serious section on the site. External Content

We don't know anything about art and, worse, don’t even know what we like. This one will be difficult. External Content

Not up on Gaussian distribution and standard deviation? This is a nerdy way of indicating that stuff in this section is beyond 99.7% of the “normal”. Weird External Content

Speaking of weird - here are some musings from the twisted world of your site editor. I will try to make them humorous. I will not always succeed. Front page duration may vary. Comments enabled.

Fun Stuff

This provides access to all words, quotes and puzzles that have been presented on the site. The puzzle date indicates the last time it was on the front page. There is no expiration on any of these items.

Friends of Oberlin

Provides an alphabetical listing of all businesses, organizations and individuals in the Friends of Oberlin category.

Photo Blog

Provides quick and easy thumbnail view of all photo blog items on the site. A similar effect can be made by making the appropriate selections under The Site menu item.
